Fama Introduces Policy-Based Screening

Los Angeles, October 20, 2026 — Fama announces Lens, a first- of- its- kind product in the background screening industry. Lens relies on a customer’s policy, no matter the complexity and nuance, to determine actionable outcomes for clients. Built on a multi-agent consensus architecture, the fully auditable, traceable, and observable system is designed for highly regulated compliance environments and AI-specific regulations.

Online Behavior Is a Growing Hiring and Legal Risk

When Fama was launched in 2015, it introduced the market to the concept of flags and keywords. Customers could turn flags such as intolerance, threats or harassment on or off. They could also layer in keywords to further customize their approach. Ultimately users were left to interpret what Fama’s generalized flags and keywords meant for their policy, for their risk acceptance. This strategy worked and created a whole industry of vendors that followed suit.

Fama serves companies across industries and geographies — – each of them hashave varying risk tolerances and criteria. While the universe of actionable data was substantially reduced via flags and keywords, Fama users were still left to interpret what these flags and keywords meant to them. This meant long review times, added labor costs, and concerns around invasiveness, – particularly with keywords.

“In 2015, we created the concept of flags and keywords. Establishing the usability paradigm early was difficult. Customers responded positively and we set the standard of how social media checks are used in a range of vetting environments,” said Ben Mones, CEO and Founder of Fama. “Lens leverages frontier technology to enable clients to interact with us at a policy level, and ensure we are screening explicitly against their criteria. This launch moves us closer to a managed services instead of just being ‘another vendor.’”

How Fama Lens Works

Fama Lens is designed is designed to be an extension of a customer’s workforce. Fama’s dedicated Policy Studio team will help customers design a policy, provide it in .docx format, and help those same customers achieve internal alignment within their companies. Once implemented, Lens uses that policy to determine what does and does not appear on a report. Every decision that the agents make isare tied back to a policy element, and every addition/removal is available in customer-facing logs. No black — box AI here —- everything is fully explainable. See how Fama Lens works in a short video on fama.io/fama-lens.

Key Capabilities

Fama Lens includes:

  • Policy-based results: Every report is screened against the customer’s own code of conduct, internal policies, and brand guidelines, not generic definitions.
  • Explainable AI: Each result shows which part of the policy it matched, giving teams a clear, auditable trail.
  • Managed by Fama experts: Fama builds each Lens and updates it as a customer’s policies change.
  • Compliant by design: Like all Fama products, Lens removes protected-class information, supports candidate consent workflows, provides audit logs on request, and aligns with FCRA, EEOC, PIPEDA, GDPR, FCA, SOC 2, and global data minimization regulations.
  • Resistant to AI attacks: Lens is built to recognize and resist prompt injection, so content written to game a screening can’t alter results.
